A-Plant Lux Invests £1.5 Million in Revolutionary Pedestrian Traffic Signals

As part of major investment to enhance its hire fleet, A-Plant Lux Traffic Control & Management has placed a £1.5 million order with Pike Signals Limited for a total of 275 Portable Pedestrian Traffic Signal Units. The order comprises Pike’s new Evolution range and A-Plant Lux is the first national traffic management company in the UK to offer the state-of-the-art units.

Although A-Plant Lux already has the Evolution range in its hire fleet from previous orders, the £1.5 million order is the largest single order that Pike Signals has ever received from A-Plant Lux. Pike has recently launched the Evolution range following two years of research and development and it represents a major step forward in vehicle and pedestrian control using Portable Traffic Signals. The Highways England (formerly the Highways Agency) approved units have gone straight into the A-Plant Lux fleet and are available to hire from its traffic management Service Centres nationally.

Jim McLachlan, Business Development Director for A-Plant Lux said: “We believe these units are the most innovative on the market and offer significant benefits over more conventional traffic management solutions. Allowing up to nine vehicle phases and eight pedestrian crossing points, they have the ability to control a wider range of roadwork situations than ever before. They meet the growing need from highways and local authorities to provide pedestrian facilities at roadworks, which is becoming increasingly important in duty of care and improves pedestrian safety at traffic lights crossing”.

The Evolution units have a flexible, configurable system which allows control for either vehicles only, vehicles and pedestrians, or pedestrian-only installations. They have full Type Approval to the latest Highways England specifications TR 2502B, TR 2537A and TR 2538A. With automatic communications restart, last mode set-up for quick start configurations and a simple user interface with a clear LED text display, each controller can be configured as a master or slave and the radio-linked system has no interconnecting cables..

As the UK’s market leader in Traffic Control and Management, A-Plant Lux offers a vast range of equipment available to hire, including Traffic Lights in 2, 3 and 4-way configurations, Temporary Pedestrian Crossing Solutions, Variable Message Signs (VMS), Road Signs, Cones, Traffic Separators and many other products. As well as equipment for hire A-Plant Lux has a dedicated Call Centre which can manage every aspect of a traffic management project, from site drawings, local authority liaison, installation and 24/7 emergency callout cover.
