Theft

Equipment theft has unfortunately been on the increase in recent years, it has become vitally important that your equipment is secure.

A-Trak – What is it?

A-Trak is an advanced tracking and security system (created by security specialists Enigma Vehicle Systems) that allows you through our award winning Extranet system to track the movements of your hired plant online 24-hours a day, seven days a week. So whether your plant equipment is stolen or you just want to check it is where it’s supposed to be you can do that from anywhere in the world!

The Benefits

  • A proven anti-theft system
  • Remote Immobilisation – arm or disarm your machine from your mobile phone – so if you are notified that your vehicle is not where it should be you can simply immobilise it
  • Geo & Poly Zones – a virtual fence around your machine is set up (size of zone is your choice) and if the machine leaves that zone you automatically receive an e-mail or text
  • The facility to monitor online, fuel level, battery level, coolant, engine and ignition state

CESAR – What is it?

CESAR is state-of-the-art identification technology. It uses unique miniature electronic tags, highly visible plates combined with forensic security technology which the police can scan and connect to the DVLA to check if the vehicle is stolen or not.

There have been countless other occasions where A-Trak has been used to track and recover stolen plant.

Aerial photograph leads the way

A mini-excavator was reported stolen to A-Plant in Falkirk from a customer in South Lanarkshire. Aerial photographs generated from A-Trak were then used to guide the police to forestry commission land. The Police had to leave their vehicle and continue on foot to locate the stolen excavator in its hiding place deep within the forest.

Dover snatch

An A-Plant telehandler was reported stolen on a customer’s site in Chislehurst. The unit was equipped with A-Trak and was traced via the system to Erith in Kent but, even after a thorough search of the area, the police were unable to locate the unit. As a precaution, an additional security layer of text message alerts was added to the messages being relayed by the A-Trak system on the telehandler.

A couple of days later, the A-Trak support team received ignition check messages from the machine and the unit was tracked to Dover Western Docks.

Within 30 minutes of being notified the Police recovered the telehandler in the trailer of a vehicle which was also loaded with plant equipment. The Police moved in to arrest four people and recover the telehandler and eight other pieces of plant, together with a stolen Scania tractor unit and trailer. The stolen equipment was prevented from reaching its intended destination – Cyprus!

Record time recovery

The record time for recovery is currently held by our Thatcham depot in Berkshire. The depot reported the theft of a Portable Compressor from Oxford and within HALF AN HOUR, based on the detailed information provided by the security system the Police recovered the unit along with other stolen plant and made arrests of the other people involved too!

Six Police vehicles & helicopter in chase for stolen plant

The A-Trak tracking system guided six pursuing police vehicles and a helicopter in double-quick time to the location of a 1.5 tonne mini-excavator stolen from a customer in South Wales. The mini-excavator was recovered together with the customer’s trailer after fast work by both A-Plant and Enigma Vehicle Systems.

As soon as the customer reported the theft of the mini-excavator to A-Plant, the Police were alerted and were kept on the trail by A-Plant and Enigma as the stolen equipment hurtled down the M4 motorway. The live updates of the mini-excavator’s position relayed by Enigma led to its quick and safe recovery by the Police.
