We now have an exciting opportunity for a Fitter to join our A-Plant Rail team, part of the FTSE 100 Ashtead Group plc, the second largest equipment rental company in the world. We offer a complete one stop shop for rail equipment, offering a wide range of equipment for hire to major rail infrastructure contractors.

Roles and responsibilities
On a day-day basis you will maintain and repair a wide range of Rail equipment (both in the workshop and trackside) including compactors, jacks, OLE equipment, chain saws, rail generators, track trolleys, TSR equipment, sleeper beams, stressing equipment, trackside lighting, remote control triple wackers, Vortok safety barriers, battery rail drills and wrenches, and much more.
This will include finding and capturing machine damage and keeping accurate and comprehensive service and maintenance records. It is also really important that you communicate effectively, ensuring that your Line Manager and Customers are kept informed as required.
Working alongside colleagues, you will be a great team player and take pride in your workplace and working environment, making sure that high standards are maintained whilst complying with company procedures and processes.

What you will need to bring to the role from day one:
- Prior experience in a Maintenance Fitter role, preferably within the rail industry
- A strong commitment to Health and Safety and ideally with PTS Certification
- Able to work as part of a Team, supporting colleagues
- Flexible and self-motivated, you’ll be keen to embrace new training opportunities, which may on occasion require staying away from home
- Great communication skills – both verbal and written
- Customer-Focused with a commitment to delivering an excellent service
- Effective planning and organisation skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy
The normal working week is Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the requirement to participate in a standby and call-out rota including evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required.
